O-Level Results: HIHS Graduates get back their results

It is that time of the year again. The time where every candidate who sat for last year’s
(2019) GCE O-Level Examinations receives their results. This year’s release of the
GCE O-Level results was held on 13 January at each candidate’s respective schools.
It’s one of the most important days for every secondary school student in Singapore.

This year, our 2019 Secondary 4 and 5 graduates gathered in the school hall, waiting in
anticipation to receive their result slips. According to MOE, students who sat for last
year’s O-Level examinations have set a new record, with 85.2 percent of the cohort
attaining 5 or more passes.

“Although I didn’t do amazing, or get a low aggregate, I’m really proud of myself. The grades I achieved were beyond my expectations and I’m really happy with my results.” said Anthea Frances Saw, 17, a 2019 secondary 4 O-Level graduate, “While I am very excited to enter a new school, it feels like I’m leaving a part of myself behind in HIHS. I came into HI not expecting much, but left with fond memories and great friends. I’ll miss my classmates, my friends, my CCA. But I’m really excited to start a new chapter of my life in JC.”

The Principal of Holy Innocents High school, Mrs Rebecca Chew, had this to say, “I
believe all of them tried their best, and did well to move nearer towards realizing their
own career aspirations.” She wishes for the graduates to be always open and adaptive,
to reframe and have the courage to let God move them towards what He wants them to
be in the future. She also wishes for the future Secondary 4 and 5 students to dream of
what they want to be, believe in their responsibility towards the choices they make in life
and achieve the goals that they had set out, giving thanks that God has a plan for them,
whatever season of life they may be in.

“I am happy with my results as throughout the year I have put in effort in my studies.
The jump from sec 4N to 5Exp is a big jump and acheiving the desired points I wanted, I
was happy. I think that our batch did well. However, there is always room for
improvement. I feel that it is going to be a big challenge when I go on to Tertiary education as it will not be the usual things I am used to in a classroom but I am going to try my best.” Said Christian Matthew Wong, 18, a secondary 5 ‘O’ level graduate of 2019. He also wishes to tell his graduating batches to always persevere no matter how tough the subject is. Always ask for consultation if there are teachers are available and to never give up!
